Hmmm, attended my first free Weight Watchers Meeting….any input?

One BIG shout out for WEDNESDAY!!!!

Hip hip hooray….can you believe its halfway through the week?  seems impossible to me.

My weigh in will be Friday, and I’m feeling a bit shaky.  I weigh myself here at home, then today I attended my “free” Weight Watchers meeting and of course with all my clothes I weigh more.

Thank you all for your support….I’ve heard 1 - 2 pounds a week is best.  I just see others here losing 3 -5 pounds and I’m amazed!!!  Congrats to all of you!!

At Weight Watchers this morning, I was telling the instructor (in private) how I had lost 8 pounds in 8-9 weeks, and she too agreed, I need to be more patient…not my best virtue :(  but I’m learning!!

Sooooo….the question is now, Do I join?

I’ve been a on-line Weight Watcher fan, and also right after my heart attack, they had an offer for a mail order that would contain all the information and tools needed to do it at home.  Of course neither worked for me.

Maybe with a combination of BuddySlim, family support (esp husband) and Weight Watchers support, I can do it.

Another interesting fact….if you follow Weight Watchers plan…..in 52 weeks  you can lose up to 100 pounds, some have lost more  YIPPEE!!!!

So any suggestions, coments, ideas, opinions would be great!!

As always….I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!

Have a great day :)

May God make your day picture-perfect in every way.

    Hi Jane
I was a WW member about 15 - 18 years ago - that was before I was married with children. It worked great - fabulous. I lost 50 pounds with what seemed to be little effort - of course I was younger then and I know that plays a part in the whole metabolism thing. I was also VERY dedicated. I joined again about 10 years ago, after my child was born and my divorce was final - I was not as successful then, but not as dedicated or motivated either.

I guess what I’m saying is - their program works, if you are willing to work at it. The in person group support can be great (with the right group.) Also, maybe just the fact that you are paying a weekly fee will be enough of a motivator to get your money’s worth - if you know what I mean. I didn’t go back this time simply because there is not room in my budget.

Bottom line - it’s up to you. They are reputible and have been around for decades. Hope this helps a little.

I can’t afford any program (why I love BS) but I know it works for a lot of people. The more support the better Janey! :) I’m just glad you are here.

Yes, patience is imporant. BTW, I am a slow loser, never one to lose more then 2 lbs at the most a week unless it’s water.

    LOVE YA!

    Me again!

Another thing you might check into before making your decision is TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) They too have been around for decades. If in person group support is what you want/need, this is a low cost option. Here (in Wisconsin) I think I was paying $2.00 a week to attend. Each chapter operates differently, but most have “fines” for gains (ours was 10 cents) - not much, but a motivator. Some will run monthly or quarterly games/contests. It was fun. I really enjoyed my TOPS group. I had to leave when my daughter and husband went thru a medical crisis. I just wasn’t up to another thing on the agenda then. I lost 25 pounds quickly (like 3 months or so) and this was just a couple years back so the aging metabolism was in place. LOL

I miss my TOPS group, but am ashamed to go back - I’ve gained what I have lost and more…

    Hey Chick,

Sounds like you have a lot of options & support backing you up. I think you should go with your gut on this one about Weight Watchers. I’ve never looked into it, but have heard from ppl who have tried it & they all loved it. The only negative thing I’ve heard about it is you get tired of all the counting (points & calories). But do what your instincs tell ya on this 1. Besides, it’s usally you who knows best :)

I would love to give you my opinion on WW, but I get on my soap box and weigh the pros and cons and can’t seem to cme up with a fair answer. Sorry Jane. :(

I don’t go because I can’t afford it. But I was a member for years, and they really taught me alot. I agree, go with your gut :)

I attend meetings and have been a member since Jan of last year. I have missed less than 5 meetings because going to them keeps me accountable. I know alot of people do it online but I need to know I have to face another living breathing human being when its time to weigh in.

And I stay for the meetings. Alot of people weigh and leave. I dont get that at all. Why even bother? The meeting is were I get my weekly dose of “I can do this”. I listen to the others and feed off their successes and failures. Before I had my backslide when my grandfather died I had lost 76 pounds between the first of January and Thanksgiving. So I can attest that the program works if you follow it.

I have just started WW this week, I am just doing it myself though without officially joining. I have heard a lot of success stories and like others have said, they’ve been around for a long time. Is there anyway you can just join for a month and see how it works for you?

  9. preshuz @ March 21st, 2009

(((((Jane)))))). I’ve never done WW or known anyone personally who has, but I think you have to do what’s best for you. If you truly feel that this program will help you reach your goals then do it! As long as it’s a healthy approach and you’re confident in it. Good luck & let us know what you decided to do.

The best thing about WW is that it allows people to learn about the REAL consequences of foods that aren’t always obvious.

Example : orange juice is pretty calorie laden, so is milk! Rice cakes are crazy bad for you, and alchohol is also high calorie, in addition to being toxic. :)

You don’t have to join WW to find out food values, since there are enormous resources online to find out the point values of various foods and recipies. You’re probably better off not eating the WW food anyways, as fresh is definitely better for you than flash frozen!

If I were you, I’d run with the WW crowd for a while and use that point system to teach yourself about nutrition and exercise. When you run into a food that seems abnormally high in points (corn is filled with sugar??!) research that and find out WHY. This will lead you to a new life of avoiding foods that seem healthy, but aren’t at all. The body is an amazing thing, and is quite fascinating when you learn about how different nutrition affects it.

In the end, doing ANYTHING is great. Inactivity and procrastination and apathy makes more fat cells than anything else. As long as you’re actively pursuing health, you’re doing great.

Best of luck with WW, let us know how you like it.

If you have the money and it is motivating, why not? I can not get WW points out of my head so it is part of my cells I swear. It works when you do it. I would totally do WW with you. I try to get David to do it, but it may not be his thing. If you have any questions or thoughts about buddying up, let me know. I love eating mostly core but using points. Can you tell me if you learn more about there new Momentum program. What are the main principles. I have probably given them $750+ so I do not feel bad for stealing a little info, if you do not mind sharing of course. ;)

All the best with the weight loss.
