I’m about to go crazy here….I’m craving a McDonalds Big Mac HELP!!!

YEAH its Friday buddys!!! Hope you are all having a fabulous day and have some fun plans for the weekend
I know the picture above is not a Big Mac, but I’ve been searching for like a half hour, and I gave up.
Since the hospital (August 15) I’ve been so well behaved with my eating. We’ve avoided fast food almost always. I did have a veggie sub from Subway (not my favorite, I need the MEAT) LOL!! Also had 1 Arbys roastbeef, and Quiznos sub, it was a healthy turky sub.
So everytime I pass a Mcdonalds, my car starts to swerve towards their parking lot!!! My car is possessed. My tongues hanging out for a darn Big Mac!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do you all get past these cravings? Maybe if I didn’t eat all day and only had 1 Big Mac, or maybe a half, but then what about the fries????????????
You know what I came to realize. I know what to eat and how much. But food has consumed my whole life. I started cooking at age 10 (only for my survival, my mother couldn’t cook very well). I’ve always been the “One” who made the big special meals, and everyone ALWAYS had to come to my house to eat on Holidays. I can only remember going to my mother and fathers house for 2 Thanksgivings. Everything else was my responsibility.
So its no wonder my life revolves around food. I know I’m not alone out there with this issue.
Well thats enough rambling for one day!!!
Wishing you all a peaceful day, full of Gods Blessings and lots of Sunshine
Love you all so much
Jane

Oh, I understand! I learned how to cook for survival when I was in my first apartment, and I’ve been the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer ever since!
Fast food is ONE of my downfalls, but not a big one. Sodas and chips are the worst. What I’ve had to do is think about what I want INSTEAD. Instead of whimpering to myself about a Wendy’s Junior Bacon Cheeseburger and a Frosty, I’ll visualize the produce section or the frozen vegetables section of the supermarket and think “Hmmm what looks good in here?” Pretty soon I’m slobbering for a bowl of butternut-squash soup and a glass of iced tea.
Try to focus on what you CAN have instead of what you can’t.
Heyyy
I had the same problem, except i wanted there french fries. The other day my brother and I went there so he could get his afternoon coffee, and i was SOOO tempted to but that medium fry, but i was like, okay, so i’ll eat this and feel like crap, or i can skip it and feel good about myself knowing i made a good choice. PLUS!..another way to think about it would be, if you ate it, think about how long you’ll have to workout that night to burn off them calories. lol, that one always gets me.
Hope you are having a good day!!
Hi Jane. I’m new to Buddy Slim but I too have soem serious issues with food. And I feel you’re pain with the Big Mac attack. Here in Texas its Whataburger but just as terrible for you. I would see if you can logically hold out and if the craving persists I would allow yourself a Big Mac, skip the fries (no use even buying them if you’re like me you’ll just eat them) and move on. It sounds like you’ve done pretty good this week so why not have a little cheat. But get back to healthy as soon as you throw the Big Mac wrapper away. Good luck and have a super weekend.
Hey Jane,
Congrats on voicing your craving. One thing that helps me with Micky D’s is the movie I keep hearing about with the healthy guy who almost killed himself by eating it.
Also there was a blog some days back about what not to feed kids. The blogger named some unGodly amount of fat and calories…preservatives and even sugar that they used to make the food with. Ewwww…I think they even bleached chick. BLAH!
You could always make your own burger…if you are feeling up to it. Hubby and I have fallen in love with BISON BURGERS. They are super lean. And exotic enough for us to feel like they are a treat. Out local super market started carrying them.
But if you have to still have your burger at McD’s…enjoy the heck out of it. Savor every bite…make it worth the detour.
Good luck, buddy.
Good luck on passing that by today. It is so hard to realize that cravings are just that - cravings that will go in time. as you change your relationship with food these too will change. in the mean time can you do a smaller burger and no fries? deprivation never worked so well for me - i had to do portion control on these types of things. really imp’t not to let anything like a big mac wreck your health, though. i bet you’ll make a choice that fits! hugs!!!

“Put up your hands…and step away from the car, Jane.” No more drive-thrus for you. Your not going near a BigMAC if I have to come over there and tie you up, myself. The craving will pass…think about all that bad cholestrol. You don’t need that clogging up your arteries…You can do it…with all that practice, your probably an awsome cook…you can find a healthy alternative.
Walk it off..
My best piece of advise to try to overcome a craving is to picture your goal and then realize that the craving will keep you from reaching that goal.

I’ve said it before, I ‘ll say it again. My mantra is, “That (insert current craving) doesn’t look as good as reaching my goal.”
More often than not, it works for me and I’m now 25 pounds lighter to prove it.
I know it’s hard, but you’ve gotta just say no!
Do whatever it takes to stay far, far away from fast food drive thrus when craving madly like this. Hang in there, you CAN do it!

You went to ER last year. This year you were told that your heart was working only 30% of its capacity.
These foods are full of sodium and fat. What else can I say?
Would you give a gun to Talan only because he wants it?
Why would you want to kill your heart with Big Mac and Fries? Is it worth it?
You can make an informed, adult decision Jane.
How many minutes have you walked today?
Hugs,

Those are just gross. Sorry but I hate McDonalds…you can do it Jane
I cant eat McDonalds… jsut the thought of it makes me feel sick. BUT I used to be the way you are now with pizza. I just stopped ordering it after I got sick of losing weight, binging on a pizza and then working hard the rest of the week just to lose the pizza-weight. I dont know how I did it. I did order a pizza last week, but it was a small veggi one and counted it as my dinner.
I think everything in moderation. If you want a big mac and you know it’s almost 600cal… then that is your dinner. No more, no less and that is all you can have for your dinner. Now, think about how much you could have for dinner if you made it yourself… for that ammount of calories you could have a baked chicken breast with loads of veggies, potatoes and even some frozen yougurt or fruit for dessert.
It’s all up to you girlie…. what would you enjoy more and what will keep you fuller for longer AND what will make you skinny in the long term?!
Okay, I didn’t read everyone else’s comments like I usually do because I didn’t want my comment to be swayed one way or the other. You know what I say? Give in to the craving. I know you are sitting back in shock right now, but what I have learned is the longer that I supress a craving the worse I am when I give in. (And unfortunately, I always give in.) Usually I find that if I give in to it then after a couple of bites I find that I really don’t want it anyway. BUT if I wait days and days and then finally give in I find that I make myself eat it just because of all the suffering I have put myself through waiting for it.
So there is my two cents for the day, lol.
Have a wonderful weekend good buddy!
Sorry Jane, I just realized that I’m still logged on under the team page so you wouldn’t have known that came from me…Anj! LOL, didn’t mean to confuse you there…
Thanks Tatiana, for the reminder why we shouldn’t eat fatty burgers.
Hey Jane, I agree with Anj, just give in and enjoy it. I normally give in - hmmmm is that why I don’t lose faster? J/K
Something to be aware of: it’s okay to give in to cravings if your body can handle extra salt and fat and can bounce back quickly.
It’s different when there is medical emergency due to body’s depleted reserves and serious medical illness. You would not tell an insulin dependent diabetic to skip his shot and indulge in cake. You wouldn’t advise a person with severe allergies to eat peanuts risking their life. The consequences would be different.
Other than that, I agree with those who said, go ahead and have it. I think that deprivation doesn’t work on a long run and we have to work on moderation.
I do understand the cravings.
Normally this is what I would say… well there are two things.
One - have a little and get it out of your system, but I love you too much Jane for this.
Two - Resist and once you no longer want it, allow for HALF and enjoy with no guilt.
THE PROBLEM IS (says with emphasis and not shouting) is these foods are laced with sugars and fats that these companies want people to become addicted to. So, I wonder, is it going to satisfy or leave you wanting more and more?
I think we both should resist. I will resist the pumpkin cheesecake ice cream (that I read about on Catrina’s blog) if you resist the burger. Shall we resist and enjoy ALL that WE CAN HAVE in this world…. good nutritious food and great people to share it with?
Love ya Jane. Keep on doing your best.
*HUGS*
If you have a wonderful week where you have filled your body with wonder antioxidant foods (fruits and veggies….. the brightest colored ones like berries of all kinds, green, red, yellow and orange fruits and veggies)…then one burger will not put you back, but do you want it in you? Is it going to satisfy you in a way that something else might REALLY?
My other thought is this, could you body be craving some healthy fat and it just seems to think a burger would do it? Salmon, nuts, seeds, little avocado? Our bodies need healthy fats, and maybe yours wants some? Who knows? Just ideas here.
*hugs*
Freshly ground flax seed? *sigh*
…stopping now.
I just love Tatiana…I glanced through her comment to you, but I love that she rolled up her sleeves and looked for the nutritional value, or lack thereof, of a Big Mac!! LOL!! You gotta love our Buddyslim Cop!! LOVE HER!! Anyway, by the time you read this, you would’ve already had your burger or refrained. I think you shouldn’t deny yourself, so long as Jenn suggested, you have had a SUCCESSFUL week. And if you decide to have the burger, forget the fries! I would love to own a mansion on a coastal town in Italy and travel all over the world, I would love to be with Brad Pitt, but I’m not willing to give up my husband—guess we can’t have everything we want, now can we? Heheheh!! I’m so silly, aren’t I? Ok, seriously…I don’t think ANYONE should ever deny themselves something they love, like in this case a Big Mac, but I think maybe you should challenge yourself to EARN IT by exercising (if the Doc allows it) and eating healthy 99.9% of the time!! Please let me know what you decided to do. And by the way, I am with Jenn…I recently discovered flaxseed–they kick butt!
Ok. I have put down my fork and backed off from the fridge and I hope you stayed away from that Big Mac.
Big HUGS!
