A Lightbulb Moment in the Grocery Store

While shopping on Sunday I realized something really big!!!  When I first started BuddySlim I thought I knew all the tricks and shortcuts to losing weight.

I’m proud to say I’ve learned such an incredible amount of information being here with you all.

While shopping I noticed how my husband and I shopped.  We stuck to the perimeters of the store.  A year ago, I would have made a mad rush to the bakery, then deli, then proceeded to the boxed dinners, chips, pop, and my most favorite the frozen section.

Unbelievably we spent most of our time in the produce, then off to the meat (not frozen only fresh) picked up some juice and off we went.  I did slip up and buy a small package of danish which I later regretted :(

Sad to say I haven’t even reached one single goal, but I  feel so much stronger and so much more educated on the entire eating/exercising system we all need to follow.

Unfortunately there are those of us who let ourselves go (for so many reasons) and there are those of us who are cursed with slow metabolisms, or maybe our medication slows everything down and causes weight gain.  Some of us are affected by our age (I feel like I’m struck with all of the above) but you know what buddys?  It doesn’t matter what our struggle or reason for being overweight may be.

What counts is that we all realize our problem first off….learn how to change the problem….include a large support system (friends /family) ….then begin our new journey into the healthy eating.

In the last couple of days I’ve watched what I’ve eaten, being very careful (except for that bad bad danish) and I know I feel better.

Hope everyone has a happy Tuesday.  The sun is shining so bright here in Michigan, I hope your sun is shining on each and every one of you!!

Enter into a venture when you have sufficient faith to see it through.

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?

Hey girlfriend, you ready for some tough love? What do you mean you haven’t reached one goal? I think you have reached goals that you didn’t even realize you had. Take grocery shopping for example, you don’t think that is a huge goal conquered? Or how about how strong you have stayed with all the stress of your daily life over the past few weeks? Or maybe even keeping with the mentality that today is a new day? A new day to start over and put the danish behind you? Or how about the way that you have inspired, motivated and cheered so many of us? (Me included?!) Give yourself credit for all the things that you have accomplished and that little old danish will be no big deal. :) You know that I had to be stern with you because I love you so much!!! Now, go give that grandson a call…I’m sure hearing his voice will put you in the right frame of mind.

Slowly we get there learning all kinds of interesting things along the way. Isn’t it awful how we decide to have a treat+ and then feel so much more terrible then ever before? Are stomachs are saying NO when our minds and hands are wanting. Slowly they learn too I guess, but time. My “danish” this weekend was Sunchips! Yikes. Ahh well more good days then not so good, right? Let’s keep moving in the right direction and we will get there. *hugs*

You should be proud of what you have accomplished. We are all still learning every day. I have learned so much here and continue to learn new things each and every day. Without buddies like you I would never have come as far as I have.
    Hugs, have a great day!

First…I think it’s amazing that you’ve made this realization! It’s huge, and it’s a start. Second, I agree with harleygirl, you should recognize the accomplishments you’ve made, and don’t beat yourself up! I’ve learned that this whole weight loss/getting healthy thing is a journey, and even though we know the general direction when we start, success only comes when we’ve hit all kinds of bumps and dips in the road…we never know exactly how it will go. Therein lies the journey, and I think it’s one of self discovery. You are on your way!! Hugs and keep up the great work!!

I agree Jane, it’s amazing how much we’ve grown on this journey. We are more knowledgeable in the ways of the nutrition world, it’s follow-through that it’s a big problem for most of us. That being said, I want my confident, GO GETTER buddy back. The one who not too long ago was super excited with me to get started on our SB adventure. I haven’t even seen you on the forum and I know you are going through so much because you’re so concerned about dad, but Jane, you NEED to do this. I know I don’t need to tell you, because in your heart, you know. It’s just that Wonderwoman gave me a dose of tough love and now it’s my time to return the favor. YOU HAVE TO GET BACK ON PLAN, 100%, no excuses. I know this much about you now, you too hide in the shadows when you know you’re not doing what you should and I bet, there’s a bit of shame and disappointment there….SO because I love you and because I care and because I want my Jane back, I’m telling you….grab my hand and let’s get on with the show.

Jane, it’s good that you have the knowledge and make healthy choices. Enjoy healthy cooking and don’t forget portion control and exercise.

I loved this blog. It comes straight from your heart and you have a heart of gold.

It’s not so much the weight as it is how we FEEL physically. If you are making educated changes, working on it, and feeling better, then the weight loss WILL come. Just stick with it, k buddy? You are right about the medication, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t reach your goals. It just means that you have to work a little harder at it.

    Big hugggggggggggs,
    Shan

that’s so great- picturing you and your dear hubby walking the perimeters of the store. i kept visualizing bumping into you in the produce and giving you a big hug! you are slowly meeting your goals, jane, as one of your goals is to be healthier and you are certainly doing that even if the pounds aren’t reflecting it yet. you are making new habits and soon the eating part will come and there will be less danishes and less eating out and less in general. be patient with that lovely self of yours! and keep on shining - just like the beautiful sun is today!

Wow! what an inspiration you are to everyone. Could you be more humble? more loving? more caring? more giving? more spiritual? more genuine? etc. etc., I think not! You have more strength, courage and faith than a kazillion people combined. I have been blessed to find you and I am not letting you out of my sight. Your rainbow will find you and uplift you when you least expect it because you always emit that rainbow to all that like I, are so blessed to know you. I would be honored if you would be my buddy. The switch has just gone off in your head. You’ve turned that corner to having the mentallity of a thin person, and there’s no going back now. Well done girlie!
