Adkins or South Beach?? Please HELP!!!

Thank You Comments by MyCuteGraphics.comGood Morning Buddy Slimmers!!! Hope everyone is up and smiling today March 11, 2008.  Spring is just around the corner….are we all working hard towards our goals?

I know I sure am, my husband has now lost 10 lbs.  My scale is doing the yo-yo thingy right now :( but its ok, I’ve yet to give up.  Walking has become easier and more frequent now.

We have decided to make Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday YMCA days.  We are committed to dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Dad.

Ok..big question, big dilemma here.  I have bought both South Beach Diet Book, and Adkins.  Can’t say I’ve read both books front to back as of yet, but after looking at the highlights they seem to be very very similar to me.

Can someone tell me what the major difference is between the 2 diets??? and why you choose the diet you did?

Thank you for your time…April is my first vacation and its only around the corner, Its time once again for me to get serious!!!

Love to everyone…stay happy…stay healthy!!!

Well I could never do ATKINS it is alot of grease and fats vs. Southbeach alot of lean meat and lean fats (nuts & cheese) I don’t eat red meat either just fish and chicken. And Southbeach is alot safer to me (just my opinion so please no haters send me mail she asked for our opinions). I use to do KIMKINS low low carb under 20 carbs per day and that is just not healthy putting your body in a ketosis state. Southbeach is really not a diet but a healthy way of eating and changing your life! The 1st Phase is the hardest cutting out fruits and white stuff bread, etc. but you slowly add back the carbs and continue to lose weight! I’m on my 4th week and have already lost 19 lbs so it will work if you follow the guidelines. Hope this helps you out some!

Having done both I say south beach is the way to go. I lost weight with atkins but I don’t like eggs. At south beach you can have 2 cups of low fat or fat free dairy daily. Like cottage cheese, milk, or plain yogurt. It is not so full of high saturated fats either. If you chose south beach there is a web site southbeachfriends.com that gives a updated food list for phase1 and 2. Plus recipes galore. Water is important for both plans as well. Good luck and if you need help let me know.

I have tried both and all I can tell you is SOUTHBEACH ALL THE WAY BABY! For those that can handle Atkins, more power to you and I applaud those that can do it. I couldn’t hack it! Made me feel sick and thinking about all the meat, eggs and cheese you eat….ugh.

Southbeach teaches you how to eat healthy and leaner. It teaches you to eat the right types if fats and lean meats. You slowly add back in whole grains and other carbs too. It is also very forgiving if you slip now and then too. Let me know if I can answer any other questions! :)

I have no advice on diets but I am thrilled that you committed to exercising and going to the Y.

I’m a Southbeach fan. Don’t know a lot about Atkins, but I would recommend Southbeach for you just for the very fact that I know it’s heart healthy.

I’m glad the walking is getting easier and more frequent. Love you YMCA plan too! See? Progress!

    Big HUGGGGGGGGGGGS,

I’m not an expert, but my doctor suggested South Beach diet as a model and said to avoid Atkins. She even said you don’t have to be quite as strict as SB starts out, just use it as a guideline.

That said, I didn’t take her advice. As long as I’m losing while eating reasonably healthy and getting lots of exercise, I’m just not ready to go that drastic. I’m a carb addict.

I’m checking out South Beach. Atkins is too restrictive for me. Congrats to hubby, and good job on the walks. Keep at it, you will make the scale behave!

Love the commitment to the Y! That’s so great that it’s getting easier, too! You are building cardio and muscles - yay! I don’t relly know the diets much, but it does sound like South Beach is more reasonable and sets you up for just regular healthy eating after you kind of detox from over carbing. I think whatever you chose make sure you will give it a real go while give yourself some times to not be 100% - just make that once a week not everyday, like i seem to be doing right now :)

I am just starting using southbeach, a doctor recommended it to me. Your exercise plan looks really good!

Honey, with your heart problems I think South Beach is the way to go! Let us know which you choose. I have heard good things about S.B. but Adkins is NOT heart friendly, no matter what they tell you. Love, marge

I’ve never done SB but I hear wonderful things about it…Atkins, I swear by, but then again I also swear by WW…I guess the point is everything works so long as you stick to it! I am partial to Atkins only because I have done it in the past with great success and because while I was on it, I had no migraines. Of course….selfish me would prefer you do Atkins so we are both on the same plan…BUT I just glanced at Marge’s comment and I would rather you did NEITHER until you consult with your Dr. first…I NEED you here for a long time!! Again…me being selfish!! Hahahaah!
