Label Reading 101

Yesterday I learned everything to look for on the labels on our foods.  Actually I had already been taught the Sodium, Potassium, Fat, Saturated Fat, Sugars.  During my Diabetic Counseling I was taught about the little devils Carbohydrates….MY FAVORITE…those bad boys are really going to challenge me.  :( :( :(

I did learn one nice thing about carbs/fibers.  Look at your label…lets say its 20 carbs per serving.  Now look at the fiber.  It says 5 carbs fiber per serving.  You then subtract 5 from 20 and your total carb for that selection is 15…Hows that!! LOL!! Works for me.

So I left all bundled up with papers, booklets….goal planners (I love all those little tools) and I’ve researched some on the internet.

Believe it or not the scale went down again.  I think it must be the walking.  We went Sunday, missed Monday, I walked at home Tuesday and already today.  I’m really aiming to walk once a day whether its the YMCA or here at home!!!

Its official….last night after a long emotional hunt for the cheapest tickets to go to DisneyWorld in October, we found some and are reserved.

We’ll leave Oct 5 at  7:00 a.m and arrive in Orlando at 11:30.  Coming home Oct 10 we leave at 1:30 and arrive home at 6:00 p.m.  Not bad, a little steep for the price but this will probably be the one and only time we go…in less we win the lottery!!! LOL!!! yeah right!!

Maybe this is the time to really get it done.  I’ve had enough wake up calls, and I’ve prayed religiously for help in this battle.  Today I’m feeling strong and determined.  Food will no longer be priority.  I’ll focus more on “how to eat the right foods”  I have so much information now and there is no excuse not to make the changes necessary. So ready?????????? Set???????????? I’m Going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alphabet Soup for the Soul:

Letter Y:  Yield:  Faith means yielding yourself to God because he knows what is ultimately best. Here is a good prayer for yielding, weritten by the Rev. Dr. Robert H. Schuller; “Lord, give me the guidance to know when to hold on and when to let go, and the grace to make the right decision with dignity.”

The moment you discover that there is power available to help you . . . you will see boundless opportunities to discover God’s plan for . . . complete victory.

Your enginge is revving, isn’t it! GO JANE GO!!! WALK JANE WALK! Check out the forums for some good walking groups. And I like the letter too - reminds me of the idea of surrender - realizing our own struggles and facing them rather than wishing them away. i’ll keep trying if you do too! thanks as well for the carb/fiber tip.

Where DO you get all those neat little smiley animations? Love em! I actually go that fast down the aisles in Wal-mart. LOL

Methinks someone has lit a fire under you my friend… and your enthusiasm and excitement is rubbing off on me. I love reading labels and it drives my husband mad, which makes it even more fun! hehe…

I really do think you are on the right track and headed in one direction. So pleased for you. The drop in weight is just another added bonus!

Now if you don’t stop and pick me up on the way to Disney World, I’m going to be stomping my feet like a little kid, you hear? If you get to see Mickey Mouse in person before I do, then there’s gonna be trouuuuuuuuuuuuuubbbbblllleeeeee….

    hehe

    Big hugsssssssssssss,
    Shan

It’s go time Jane!!!!! Your attitude–as always–is wonderful!!! I am so excited that you are getting to go to DisneyWorld–you are going to have so much fun…any chance you and your husband want to adopt me?? I know I am just a tad younger than you but I am REALLY immature so it would be like having another child!!!! I can’t wait to hear all about it–very exciting–can’t thing of another person that deserves it more!!!

I have a book by Schuller and I’ve yet to read it…perhaps I should?

Jane you’re in a good place right now, armed with information! You sound empowered and full of hope and that’s how I feel about my finances, since I have downloaded a TON of information on how to save money!!

Jane, earlier this year I said THIS year I would get my goals accomplished and although it’s been a rocky start, I WILL get it done…I would like nothing better than for BOTH of us to reach some short term life goals AND to finally win the battle of the bulge. Are we in this together?
