Help Please!!!

PerfectoNow that I am learning this Carbohydrate way of eating, I need all the help I can get !! LOL!!! I’m hoping some of you out there have some tasty recipes with low carbs?

How about some suggestions  on low carb snacks?  I’m such a snacking kind a gal..LOL!!

The dietician gave me a limit of 174 gr. carbs per day with 1500 calories.  OUCH!! doesn’t sound like much, but I was able to do it yesterday. YIPPEE!!! and even walked on the treadmill.

The weather as been dangerous last few days so we haven’t been able to go to the YMCA since Sunday :(  thats ok because I’ll still use my treadmill here.

Ok..any recipes, suggestions would be so appreciated!! Thanks everyone!!!

Last letter of the alaphabet :(

Alphabet Soul for the Soul:

Letter Z:  Zeal: Be zealous in  your commitment to God and to the people around you. Be a passionate proponent of justice, peace, mercy, kindness, and love.

Hope says, “I will get it sometime,” Faith says, “I have it now.”   Have a great day buddys!!

Label Reading 101

Yesterday I learned everything to look for on the labels on our foods.  Actually I had already been taught the Sodium, Potassium, Fat, Saturated Fat, Sugars.  During my Diabetic Counseling I was taught about the little devils Carbohydrates….MY FAVORITE…those bad boys are really going to challenge me.  :( :( :(

I did learn one nice thing about carbs/fibers.  Look at your label…lets say its 20 carbs per serving.  Now look at the fiber.  It says 5 carbs fiber per serving.  You then subtract 5 from 20 and your total carb for that selection is 15…Hows that!! LOL!! Works for me.

So I left all bundled up with papers, booklets….goal planners (I love all those little tools) and I’ve researched some on the internet.

Believe it or not the scale went down again.  I think it must be the walking.  We went Sunday, missed Monday, I walked at home Tuesday and already today.  I’m really aiming to walk once a day whether its the YMCA or here at home!!!

Its official….last night after a long emotional hunt for the cheapest tickets to go to DisneyWorld in October, we found some and are reserved.

We’ll leave Oct 5 at  7:00 a.m and arrive in Orlando at 11:30.  Coming home Oct 10 we leave at 1:30 and arrive home at 6:00 p.m.  Not bad, a little steep for the price but this will probably be the one and only time we go…in less we win the lottery!!! LOL!!! yeah right!!

Maybe this is the time to really get it done.  I’ve had enough wake up calls, and I’ve prayed religiously for help in this battle.  Today I’m feeling strong and determined.  Food will no longer be priority.  I’ll focus more on “how to eat the right foods”  I have so much information now and there is no excuse not to make the changes necessary. So ready?????????? Set???????????? I’m Going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alphabet Soup for the Soul:

Letter Y:  Yield:  Faith means yielding yourself to God because he knows what is ultimately best. Here is a good prayer for yielding, weritten by the Rev. Dr. Robert H. Schuller; “Lord, give me the guidance to know when to hold on and when to let go, and the grace to make the right decision with dignity.”

The moment you discover that there is power available to help you . . . you will see boundless opportunities to discover God’s plan for . . . complete victory.

Finally the Scale Goes Down!!

Peoples Gifs Images - MySpace Layouts, MySpace GraphicsWhat a great way to start my day! YIPPEE YAHOO!! Finally the scales are going down.  I’m embarassed to say I topped out at a whopping 215 pounds.  The Biggest ever in my whole life “sigh”  Today the scales were 214.  Anything is an accomplishment to me…no matter how small its going in the right direction!!! YES YES!!

Leaving in a couple minutes to go for Diabetic Counseling.  My levels are elevated but not at the “diabetic stage as yet” so my primary doctor wants me to go for counseling and learn how NOT to become a diabetic.  I’m looking forward to it.  Knowledge is power!!!  Hopefully I’ll come away with some exciting new recipes I can share (Shanna)!!! and with everyone here!

Ok, letter of the day is…………………..

Alphabet Soup for the Soul:

Letter X:  This letter is a mathematical symbol for the unknown. Let it be a reminder to accept that much about life and God is a mystery. Learn to be responsive and comfortable with the unknown. When the patriarch Abraham was called by God to leave his country and friends, he responded not knowing exactly what God was calling him to do and where he was to go.

Wow…thats really hits home for one of my buddys going through a rough time today.  Love to all my buddys here.  God bless you all and keep you healthy and happy always.

Walk, Walk and Walk Some More!

Wakka WakkaGood Afternoon Buddys! How was everyones weekend? Hope it was happy and healthy for all of you!

I’ve stayed away from the computer the last couple of days.  Well can’t lie, I did peak in…”nosey me”  LOL!!

Last week was a wake up call..kind of a slap in the face for me.  I let myself get down and depressed for a couple of days, but I’m getting right back up and ready to fight even harder.

First thing I did was make a huge pot of homemade vegtable soup.  Very healthy choice, and ate soup for a couple of days!! The family loved it and I have saved some in the freezer.

Husband and I have been really good about the YMCA.  We started Jan 20th (Sunday) working out only 30 mins.  We went 4 out of 7 days and yesterday we walked the treadmill for 40 mins, then rode the bike for 15.  55 minutes total!!! YooHOO…..thats big for me!!

Our goal this week is to try for 5 days out of 7 and at least 60 minutes each visit.  I think we can do this, but if not we’ll just keep trying!!

Ok, need to get to my school work.  I’m actually transcribing dictation right now and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! I can’t wait to graduate and get employed again.  I miss the socialization of working outside the home.  Ok, here is the letter of the day.

Alphabed Soup for the Soul

Letter W:  Wonder: A sense of wonder and awe are indispensable for spiritual growth.  Cultivate daily a sense of wonder and awe at the beauty of God’s creation–the blessed sun, the gentle rains, the salty seas, and running streams.

Lots of special prayers are going out today for my buddys feeling down and depressed.  I guess we have to take the good days with the bad days….but we need to keep our chin up and keep smiling.  God loves you all, I love you all!!

Feeling the Blues :(

Morning Buddys.  Hope this morning is a happy healthy day for everyone.  I wanted to stop in for a quick minute for the Letter of the day.  Here goes

Alphabet Soup for the Soul

Letter V  Visualize: Whenever I am in need of prayer, a Quaker friend will often say, “I am holding you in the light.” Among Quakers, or the Society of Friends, this is a visual prayer in which a person is held in God’s love, light, and healing presence. Do this for someone in need. Visualize them in your prayers. Close your eyes and see the surrounded by God’s illuminating presence.

Feeling somewhat down today after my trip to the cardiologist yesterday :( Waiting for some test results, but we suspect it is truly a weight gain not water gain.  Water gain would be far more dangerous given my heart condition, but a weight gain is almost like a slap in the face.  Guess I’m not working out and eating seriously enough.  So I’ll get back up…quit feeling sorry for my self and go from there.  I’ll be checking in to a Weight Loss Program sponsored by my HMO.  Lets see what happens there..Ok buddys…love you…have a great day!

Dedication to all our Mothers

Mommy went to Heaven,

But I need her here today,

My tummy hurts and I feel down,

I need her right away,

Operator can you tell me how

To find her in this book?

Is heaven in the yellow part,

I don’t know where to look.

I think my daddy needs her too,

At night I hear him cry.

I hear him call her name sometimes,

But I really don’t know why.

Maybe if I call her,

She will hurry home to me.

Is heaven very far away,

Is it across the sea?

She’s been gone a long, long time

She needs to come home now!

I really need to reach her,

I simply don’t know how.

Help me find the number please,

Is it listed under “Heaven”?

I can’t read these big words,

I am only seven.

I’m sorry operator,

I didn’t mean to make you cry,

Is your tummy hurting too,

Or is there something in your eye?

If I call my church maybe they will know.

Mommy said when we need help that’s where we should go

I found the number to my church

Tacked up on the wall.

Thank you operator,

I’ll give them a call

A little reminder to never take our mothers for granted…..

Bad Weather Here

Puppies Screensaver, Wallpaper

No YMCA this morning :(  We’ve been hit with some really bad storms.  I believe the weather report said 5 -6 inches of new fluffy white snow….ICK…sick of the cold!!!  The accidents have been horrendous.  I cannot get over the amount, its not like we Michiganders are new to these snowy conditions?  Its been hovering around zero degrees and the roads have a layer of ice on top.  The salt stops working when the temperatures are so cold.

I want to move to Florida, or South Carolina…somewhere WARM!!!  Hey did you like my puppy picture??? LOL!! They are so cute and cuddly and they make everything in life right.

So, guess I’ll be on the treadmill here at home.  Its ok…we might go tonight if the roads are cleared up…”fingers crossed”.

Letter for the day is………………….

Alphabet Soup for the Soul

Letter U:  Unity: In a world that is fragmented by so many special interests, unite with those who are trying to heal hurts in your neighborhood, community, and town.

~~Faith is a requirement, not an option.~~

Ok ready??? Drum roll please!!! LOL!!

Guess what we

did?  Finally my husband and I joined the YMCA on Sunday!!! They had sent

an offer that we couldn’t refuse.  You could save $100.00 if you joined by January 31.  This is our year…the year to become healthy and finally be rid of all this horrible weight.   I am bigger then I’ve

ever been and theres just no excuse for it.  We worked out only about 30 minutes yesterday because it was packed.  We could only grab two bikes side by side and didn’t want to be at opposite ends of the gym.

This morning I was up at 4:00 a.m. in the shower getting ready to go back this morning!!! On the road at 5:00 a.m. we got there at 5:30, walked the treadmill for 30 minutes (side by side) and rode the bike for 15 minutes.  My rear end was hurting!!!! LOL!! Those bike seats are not made for comfort!! So we are off to a great start (just like most people in January) and I just hope we can keep at it. My husband has to be at work by 8:00 a.m., so it will work out fine.  An hour to work out, 30 min drive home..quick shower and off to work!!  I may have heart disease and I’m not able to work out like most, but darnit I’m going to give it my all.  I want my before/after picture to look like some of my heros here.  I want SKINNY!!! or at least HEALTHY!!!

My husbands so funny, he had to get new gym clothes yesterday…he had to pick out special headphones for me to use…LOL!!! Quite an expensive weekend I should say, but should be worth it if we can get healthy and live longer.  I need to be around to see my adorable grandson grow up.  I need him and I know he needs his Gramma!!!

Ok…hope everyone had a fun filled weekend!!!

Alphabet Soup for the Soul

Letter T  Tears:  Let your tears flow for those who hurt. Weeping is a physical expression of your compassion. Scripture tells us that Jesus wept then he learned his friend Lazarus died (John 11:35). St. Paul reminds us to “weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).

Do You have a List?

Yesterday we went to see an interesting movie.  It was funny in parts, sad sometimes but most of all really interesting to me.

We are all here for one reason…to get healthy along with making buddies to help us along the way right?

We  have no idea how long we’ll be here but if we attempt to be our best…our “healthiest” we have a better chance at a longer life.

Soooooooooooo the movie we watched was BudketList with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.  Wow, I would highly recommend it.  Makes you think alot…I’m making of list of goals I’d like to accomplish while I’m here!!

Have a great Sunday everyone.

Wanted to get the letter of the day in. Love you guys!!

Alphabet Soup for the Soul

Letter S:  Silence: Practice daily times of silence. Said the Rev. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale: “Everyone should insist upon a quarter of an hour of absolute quiet every twenty-four hours. Go alone into the quietest place available to you and sit orlie down for fifteen minutes.  Do not write, do not read. Think as little as possible.  Throw your mind into neutral.  Conceive of your mind as inactive. Begin to listen for the deeper sounds of harmony that are found in the essence of silence.”

P.S., husband and I are going to go somewhere really special today.  Something I’ve wanted to do sooooooooooo bad for soooooooooo  long.  Will update you tommorrow on how it goes!! Ta Ta Ta all!!

Happy Saturday!!

Well we made it finally to Saturday!! My week was one of the better ones I was able to keep on the treadmill more often, and most important ate much healthier.  Thanks to the encouragment and support from my buddys and husband.

We’ve talked about joining the YMCA (again!).  Right now they are waiving the 100 dollar enrollment fee.  It would be 93 dollars a month.  Even if I can’t do what most can do as far as exercising I can still get a workout.  Just a workout geared to my abilities.  My husband and I will be together and that is the most important part. sooooooooooooo will see what happens!!!  Cross your fingers!!!

No plans for today…didn’t make it to see “The Legend” last weekend so we may go today..not sure.

I’ll leave with todays letter…love ya all…stay safe!!

Alphabet Soul for the Soul

Letter R: Recognize: As you move through daily tasks, recognize opportunities to be a helper and a healer. The Rev. Tommy Barnett ran from Phoenix to Los Angeles, a distance of 400 miles, in order to raise money for his Los Angeles ministry to gang members, drug and alcohol addicts, single mothers, and low-income families.  While on the run he met a man in a pickup truck who offered him a ride.  Barnett explained why he was running. By the time Barnett was through speaking, the man was weeping and confessed he was an alcoholic in need of help. Barnett counseled and prayed with the man.  Then, using the bottled water Barnett brought to quench his thirst on the run, the minister performed a roadside baptism and continued his trek.
