Thank you All!!

I was really happy to see the responses.  Makes me feel a whole lot better about people in general.  There are so many dishonest, evil and inconsiderate people these days.

So the story goes like this.  My husband and I stop in the local grocery store for just a couple of things.  The bill comes to $9.05  We give her $20.05  In return she gives us back $15.00  Out the door we go, I look at the change and realize she’s given me back to much.

I looked at my husband and said we can’t do this…and back I went.  Quietly I showed her, she actually got tears in her eyes, hugged me and said “God Bless You”  It was only a $4.00 mistake but who knows her situation.  Maybe she had been short on her drawer before and if she made any more mistakes she would have been fired?  We’ll never know….but I do know this, it was a win-win situation all the way around.

I too was a cashier and was held accountable for every cent.  I always prided myself on balancing my drawer out to the penny!

So once again, thank you all who took time to answer my blog.  This shows people are usually good!!!  We know this much…..people at BUDDYSLIM are the BEST!!

I think the majority of people are honest and try to be fair. Now can we find more presidential candidates with those morals? Sure hope so! Hugs, Marge

    Hi Jane,
Thanks for posting this question. It also reinforces, for me, that we are a generally moral and ethical society where we wanna do the right thing! YOU did the right thing! And I’m with Marge on the presidential candidates! :)

I agree that the majority of people are honest. My last cashier job for example. It was in a little country store. It is a small family run store and the older gentleman that owns it is set in his ways. Any ways he does things kind of screwy and you don’t even ring up lottery tickets or scratch offs, you sell them seperate and the money gets put in a drawer, in 2 seperate cigar boxes this makes it confusing when you get busy. One week I was short 4 dollars, and he takes the money out of your pay. The next day I worked a guy came on and boughtlottery tickets and when he paid for the ones he just purchased he gave me 2 bucks that he said was for tickets he purchased and I gave him back to much change the last time. It may have only been 2 bucks but it could have been more and it made me feel good about people in general and honesty!
    Have a good one!

Good for you! I agree, I think the majority of people would do something like this. I have done it in front of my kids and had to explain why it is right to give it back…hopefully they follow the example.

    Jane,

You have a huge heart and of course, you did the right thing! I once gave back a $5 bill at a Caribou Coffee shop and the girl acted insulted that I corrected her mistake, esp. since they got money back. I am rather appauled at how so many people don’t know how to give change these days, not intentially giving back the wrong amt., just embarrassed that they can’t do the math in their heads ****sigh! We as buddy slimmers however, must learn to count our calories HA and our cheating when we add it all up will certainly show on our bodies. Have a great week!

Good on you for giving the money back! when it comes down to it, when we are honest when noones watching and when we can get away with it, thats true integrity, thats the honesty that really counts! It also shows that your honest with yourself which is great especially with trying to lose weight!!
    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

You absolutely did the right thing. The look on the woman’s face says it all.
    Good job :)
